Den 3. november 2023 udgiver UMC/Mercury Dire Straits – Live 1978-1992, et sæt på 12 LP med live-optrædener af Dire Straits, et band, der spredte sig over hele kloden i firserne og halvfemserne med deres sofistikerede rootsy guitarrock, der er knyttet til lette historiefortællende tekster.

Dire Straits dukkede op på klub- og pubkredsløbet i 1977 og blev ledet af den karismatiske Geordie singer-songwriter, pladeproducer og komponist Mark Knopfler, en af de mest succesrige musikere, Storbritannien nogensinde har produceret, og som ofte bliver nævnt som en af de største guitarister gennem tiderne. Dire Straits' lyd definerede slutningen af 70'erne/begyndelsen af 80'erne med kæmpehits som "Sultans Of Swing", "Romeo And Juliet", "Money For Nothing" og "Walk Of Life". Dire Straits' album Brothers In Arms fra 1985, en global nr. 1 og dobbelt Grammy Award-vinder, er et af verdens bedst sælgende albums. Efter at have udgivet deres sidste album 'On Every Street' i '91 og turneret i '92, kaldte Knopfler tid på Dire Straits i 1995 og begav sig ud på en ny vej som soloartist.
