Sandheden har fundet masser af plads til at trække vejret i hvert af Jacks album (og i alt hans arbejde, fra surfefilm til hans non-profit, Kokua Hawaii Foundation), og her med sine brødre i musikken - Adam Topol (trommer), Merlo Podlewski (bas) og Zach Gill (klaver og melodica) - er han på en rejse til centrum af os selv, og til os alle sammen. Jacks 5. studiealbum - det passende titlede 'TO THE SEA' blev produceret af Robert Carranza & Jack Johnson, og byder på gæsteoptrædener fra G. Love og Paula Fuga. Albummet blev indspillet i Mango Tree Studio på Hawaii.
