Blackmore's Night blev grundlagt i 1997 af den legendariske guitarist Ritchie Blackmore og den prisvindende tekstforfatter og sangerinde Candice Night for at iscenesætte og udforske deres kærlighed til traditionel middelalder- og folk-rockmusik. Sammen skabte de et band, der som meget få andre er et godt eksempel på sandfærdighed og kreativ integritet.

Bandets debutalbum "Shadow Of The Moon" (1997) var ikke kun Blackmores bevidste radikale klip fra hans tidligere liv som berømt rockstjerne i Deep Purple and Rainbow; det var et banebrydende udsagn om hans kunstneriske idealer: hovedsageligt akustisk musik, påvirket af sangene fra middelalderen og renæssancen med et strejf af geni, der fik dem til at lyde nutidige.
