New York Dolls' første album udvidede deres kult fra Manhattan til resten af hard-core, hard-rock Amerika. Som et resultat heraf er Too Much Too Soon mindre specifikt forankret på Manhattan, selvom dens bulder og støj ikke er mindre urban. I stedet for specifikt New York City "Subway Train" på deres første LP, er der "Babylon", byen på Long Island, Philadelphia-sjælen i "There's Gonna Be a Showdown" og de kinesiske accenter af "Bad Detective".
