I 1996 udgav Social Distortion deres 5. album, White Light, White Heat, White Trash. Line-up'et indeholdt en ny trommeslager Chuck Biscuits (Black Flag/Danzig og mange flere). White Light, White Heat, White Trash var det sidste album med Dennis Danell på guitar (han døde desværre i februar 2000).
Stilmæssigt er albummet hårdere og betragtes som en tilbagevenden til deres hardcore punk rødder. Social Distortion er intet mindre end en legende i punkgenren og modtager stadig verdensomspændende respekt og støtte.
