Wild Loneliness blev optaget hjemme i North Carolina under lockdown og mixet af Wally Gagel (Here's Where the Strings Come In). Det slående billede på forsiden kommer fra et stykke med titlen Playhouse Goat af den anerkendte fotograf Farah Al Qisimi. Ud over McGinley og Blake indeholder albummet gæstepladser fra Sharon Van Etten, REMs Mike Mills, Wye Oaks Andy Stack, Tracyanne Campbell fra Camera Obscura, Owen Pallett, Kelly Pratt og Franklin Bruno. Vi gav en forhåndslytning af det nye album til digteren og Superchunk-fan Maggie Smith; her er hvad hun skrev.
