The Formation of Damnation er udgivelsen fra 2008 - det første testamente studiealbum med alt nyt materiale i ni år. Dette er det første testamente album med Alex Skolnick på guitar siden 1992's The Ritual, også det første med bassist Greg Christian siden 1994's Low. Testament er et amerikansk thrash metal-band fra Californien. Nogle af deres plader kom ind på hitlisterne på store markeder som Storbritannien og Tyskland. Testament har to Top 40-albums og et Top 50-album på sin kredit i Storbritannien. Deres album The Gathering fra 1999 kom også ind på Top 50 i Tyskland. De havde mindre top 100 albumsucces i USA.
