Although ’Work and Non-Work' was a mere collection of early singles and B-sides, it easily stands up against Broadcast's full length albums in the stakes of both quality of music and singularity of vision. Notably, it showcases the bands' love of library music, probably in a more obvious way than anything they did until their 'Microtronics' collections; brief snippets of rogue electronica are scattered between songs and tracks like ‘Phantom’ have that sinister OU feel to them that became increasingly relevant as the 'hauntology' movement emerged in later years.
