The session issued on the Groovy LP (originally produced by thelong defunct Jazzline label) was initially intended as trombonist Willie Wilson’s debut as a leader. This explains why he isfeatured as the only horn on two songs despite being in thecompany of such superb musicians as Freddie Hubbard, PepperAdams and Duke Pearson. However, both the album and Wilsonwere ill-fated. The album would be issued under the name of thegroup’s best selling artist Freddie Hubbard, and Wilson woulddie in 1963, shortly after these recordings were made.
