The Weeknd is Abel Tesfaye, an R&B artist from Toronto, Canada. Abel started uploading songs to YouTube in 2010, and has sampled such artists as Beach House and Siouxsie And The Banshees. In March of 2011 he dropped his first mixtape, House Of Baloones. The vocals, sometimes sung and sometimes rapped, talk about ugly things in a pretty voice. Drake, the group’s citymate, toys with a similar aesthetic, but the Weeknd takes his ambivalent emotional tenor and stretches it out, building a whole worldview from it.  the-weeknd.com/
