1985 MERCYFUL FATE split. While main song writer Hank Sherman continued with the more commercial sounds of FATE, King Diamond took the old comrades Timi Hansen (bass) and Michael Denner (guitars) to continue the MERCYFUL FATE legacy under his pseudonym. The band was completed by newcomers Andy LaRocque (guitars) and Mikkey Dee (drums). In the same year (1985) as appetizer for future deeds they released the "No Presents For Christmas" maxi. 1986 then was the year: "Fatal Portrait", the first long player under the banner of KING DIAMOND hit the scene. (Thankfully) Not much had changed compared to MERCYFUL FATE. A bit more melodies, but apart from that the usual picture. Demanding, but at the same time catchy songs were on the menu. http://www.covenworldwide.org/
